Relief Care Vs. Corrective Care PDF  | Print |  E-mail

There are two approaches to all problems of life. One can take active steps to correct a problem or merely seek temporary relief. A boat has a leak. You can either use a pail and bail out the water or you can take the boat out of the water and repair the actual leak. Your home is cold in the winter. You can buy an electric heater and struggle to keep warm or find out why the house is so cold and repair it. As a result of your investigation, you discover there is a broken window in the basement that is letting cold air in. To correct the cold air problem you fix the broken window and the problem is solved.

Relief care is the care necessary to only relieve signs and symptoms of a disease process, not the care needed to correct the cause of the problem. This approach looks like it would be less expensive, however in the long run it is not! If the alignment in the front end of your car is out, you can have one tire wear out faster than another. You can keep replacing tires as they wear out prematurely. This approach is relief care. In the short run, it might look like this approach saves you money or time but it doesn’t. To correct the problem it might take a little more money and some extra time up front, but in the long run you actually save more money and waist less time.

In regards to your health the choice to receive temporary relief or long term correction is important to your quality of life. Unlike a tire which you can easily buy and replace, you cannot easily replace organs (like your heart, lungs, and/or kidneys, etc.) and tissues that have failed to function. Without health you cannot enjoy life or work to your capacity. It is therefore recommended, whenever possible, to correct the cause of your problem whether they be health problems or any other problems.

It is recommended that you make choices that would lead to long-term health and vitality. It is much harder to regain your health once it’s gone than it is to maintain it once achieved. Therefore, to best maintain your health you should adopt a lifestyle that incorporates relationship building, learning, exercise, whole food nutrition, etc, and most importantly seek the services of a wellness care ofice focused on MAXIMIZING the body’s inborn ability to heal itself.
